HG Insights Review 2026: Technographic Data, Pricing and Fit

Kushal Magar

By Kushal Magar · October 19, 2026 · 13 min read

Key Takeaway

HG Insights is the deepest technographic and IT-spend dataset in B2B, built for tech vendors selling into enterprise IT. Its October 2026 Contextual Intelligence Platform adds TrustRadius intent, copilots, agents, and an MCP server. The catch: no trial, two-year standard terms, plans from $22,000 a year (Growth from $45,000), and a Vendr median contract near $90,000 a year. Rating: 4.0/5.

This HG Insights review comes down to one question: do you sell technology to companies big enough to have an IT budget worth tracking? If yes, HG Insights is the strongest install-base and IT-spend dataset on the market.

If no, you will pay enterprise prices for data you barely use. Our rating: 4.0/5.

HG Insights tracks which products companies run, how much they spend on IT, cloud, and AI, and which products their buyers are researching. On October 6, 2026, it relaunched as the Contextual Intelligence Platform, adding copilots, agents, and an MCP server on top of that data.

Most reviews of HG either come from a competitor selling a replacement or stop at "pricing is custom." This one covers how the data is built, what the credit model costs in practice, how to pressure-test coverage before you sign, and which teams should walk away.

How we reviewed it: HG offers no trial, so we did not run the product hands-on. This review draws on HG's published pricing and data methodology pages, its October 2026 launch materials, Vendr contract benchmarks, and G2 and Gartner Peer Insights reviews, with vendor figures labeled as claims.

HG Insights — technographic, IT spend, and buyer intent data for B2B technology vendors

HG Insights is a Santa Barbara-based technology intelligence company best suited for B2B tech vendors that sell to mid-market and enterprise IT buyers. Its core product is install-base data: which hardware, software, cloud, and services products a company uses, at which locations, and since when.

The company has grown by acquisition. It bought Intricately in 2022 for cloud spend data (the reason Intricately no longer sells standalone), TrustRadius in June 2025 for buyer intent and reviews, and MadKudu in August 2025 for predictive account scoring.

In October 2026, HG rolled all of it into the Contextual Intelligence Platform. The pitch: AI agents make bad calls on fragmented account data, so HG supplies one connected view of markets, accounts, and buyers for both people and agents.

How HG Insights Works

HG Insights works by detecting technology installs from many signals, verifying each one, and attaching it to the right company in a corporate hierarchy. That hierarchy step is the quiet differentiator.

A subsidiary running Oracle should not be logged as the parent running Oracle. HG links installs, spend, intent, and contacts to the correct entity so territory and account plans don't double-count.

Detection and verification

Website crawlers only see front-end tags like analytics scripts and chat widgets. HG goes past that by combining AI-based detection with human verification, checking that each data point maps to the right product and the right company.

Third-party analysts note that part of HG's detection reads job postings, contracts, and other behind-the-firewall signals. That is how it surfaces back-end systems like ERP, databases, and security tools that never show up in page source.

Rolling refresh

According to HG's data quality methodology, records update on a rolling basis rather than a fixed quarterly batch. HG also keeps 15+ years of install change history, which matters for timing renewals and displacement plays.

Four ways to consume it

  • Fabric: the raw dataset, licensable on its own via API or a direct feed into your warehouse, CRM, or models.
  • HG Copilots: Market Analyzer, Data Studio, and Sales Copilot for analysts, RevOps, and reps.
  • HG Agents: automate expansion sizing, territory coverage, account research, and outreach drafts.
  • HG MCP Server: lets your own AI agents query HG data directly.

HG Insights Key Features

HG Insights' key features are install-base technographics, IT and cloud spend estimates, TrustRadius buyer intent, and explainable fit scoring. Everything else in the platform is a way to query or act on those four datasets.

1. Technographics and install base

The flagship dataset. HG's October 2026 launch materials claim 640M+ verified installs with 15+ years of change history, plus tech usage by business function for 10M+ companies.

Records go beyond "uses Salesforce." Third-party analyses describe location-level detail and an intensity signal for how deeply a product is deployed, which is what makes competitive displacement lists usable.

2. IT, cloud, and AI spend

HG estimates spend across 150+ IT, cloud, and AI categories. The cloud piece came from Intricately and shows which providers an account pays for and roughly how much.

For a vendor, spend answers the question technographics can't: is this account big enough to matter? A company running your competitor on a $40K budget is a different deal than one spending $4M.

3. Buyer intent via TrustRadius

Since the TrustRadius acquisition, HG owns a first-party intent source. It covers 20,000+ research topics and 36,000+ products, drawn from a community of 12M+ technology buyers.

Review-site intent is downstream: the buyer is already comparing products, not reading a blog post. That makes it narrower than co-op intent like Bombora, but closer to a purchase decision.

4. Fit, Need, and Intent scoring

The MadKudu lineage shows up here. HG scores accounts on Fit, Need, and Intent with models it describes as deterministic, explainable, and adjustable, so RevOps can see why an account scored high.

5. Copilots, agents, and MCP

Sales Copilot builds account briefs. HG says a research brief returns 30+ data points in about 90 seconds, though it publishes no test conditions.

Agents run from Slack, Microsoft Teams, the HG interface, or your own apps over MCP. A new "Momentum" signal flags whether a vendor or product is gaining or losing ground in a market.

Install-Base Coverage and Data Freshness

HG Insights' install-base coverage is deepest for mid-market and enterprise technology buyers and thins out for small companies and non-tech verticals. Its own numbers show that gap if you read them side by side.

Coverage metricHG claimSource
Companies with hierarchies70M+Oct 2026 launch
Companies with technographic data13.2M+ across 236 countriesData methodology page

Contact records200M+ across 190+ countriesOct 2026 launch
Intent coverage20,000+ topics, 36,000+ productsOct 2026 launch
Technographic accuracy90%Data methodology page

The key ratio: 70M+ companies in the firmographic graph, but technographic depth on roughly 13.2M of them. 640M installs across 13.2M companies averages about 48 per company, and that average is pulled up by large enterprises running hundreds of products.

Freshness follows the same pattern. Rolling refresh works well where many signals exist, which is why the main G2 complaints are "outdated data" and "missing information" on smaller or niche accounts rather than on the Fortune 1000.

How to pressure-test HG before you sign

With no trial on offer, ask for a data sample during the sales cycle and grade it yourself. Five checks cover most of the risk:

  1. Recall on known stacks: send 100 closed-won accounts where you know the stack. Count how many of your own installs HG returns.
  2. Your long tail: include 50 accounts under 200 employees. This is where coverage drops first.
  3. Hierarchy mapping: pick 20 subsidiaries and confirm installs roll up to the right parent.
  4. Recency: compare last-verified dates against recent rip-and-replace projects you know about.
  5. Credit burn: model a real month of exports before you agree to a credit tier (see pricing below).

HG Insights Pricing: What You Actually Pay

HG Insights pricing starts at $22,000 a year for the Starter plan and $45,000 a year for Growth, with Enterprise priced on request. The HG Copilots pricing page bases those figures on a two-year term and adds 10% for a one-year term.

HG Insights pricing page showing Starter from $22,000, Growth from $45,000 and custom Enterprise plans, HG Insights review 2026

HG Copilots pricing: Starter, Growth, and Enterprise plans, priced on a two-year term

List price is the floor, not the bill. The $22,000 Starter price, first reported in October 2026 launch coverage, scales with every module you add.

Real contracts run higher. Vendr reports a $90,000 median across 46 purchases, a range of $31,498 to $173,119, and average negotiated savings of about 22%.

Pricing elementHow it works
StarterFrom $22,000/yr. 8,000 intelligence credits, unlimited AI actions, 5 seats. Price scales with modules selected.
GrowthFrom $45,000/yr. 19,000 intelligence credits, unlimited AI actions, 10 seats, premium signals (LinkedIn, Slack, GitHub).
EnterpriseCustom. All modules, custom seats, dedicated CSM and technical account manager, 24/7 support with custom SLA, SSO/SAML, full API and webhooks.
Intelligence creditsPay for data exports. Firmographics and hierarchy: 0.1 credit per entity. One buyer intent data point: 3 credits.
AI actionsCopilot tasks such as a research brief or a CRM row enrichment. Tracked apart from intelligence credits; unlimited on Starter and Growth.
Credit rolloverAllocated annually, distributed monthly. Up to 20% of unused monthly credits roll over.
Seats5 (Starter) or 10 (Growth) included. Extra Sales Copilot and Market Analyzer seats come in bundles; single seats cost a premium.
Contract termTwo years standard. One-year terms cost 10% more. Quarterly billing adds a premium.
Free trialNone. No pilot plan either.
Typical contractVendr median $90,000/yr; range $31,498 to $173,119.

The credit math that catches buyers out

Intent is 30x more expensive per data point than firmographics. Exporting firmographics and hierarchy for 20,000 accounts costs 2,000 intelligence credits, well inside Starter's 8,000.

Pulling one intent data point for those same 20,000 accounts costs 60,000 credits, three times Growth's 19,000 allowance. Size your plan around how often you refresh intent, not how many accounts you hold.

Negotiation notes

  • Third-party buyer guides suggest budgeting 15–25% above license for implementation and training on larger rollouts.
  • Trade term length for price: the two-year default is where the discount lives, so push for a price cap on renewal in return.
  • Ask for the 20% rollover to apply quarterly, not monthly, if your usage is campaign-driven.
  • Buy only the modules you will use in year one. HG lets you add Market Analyzer, Data Studio, or Sales Copilot later.

CRM Integrations and Data Delivery

HG Insights integrates natively with Salesforce and HubSpot through bi-directional connectors and delivers raw data to Snowflake, Amazon S3, or any warehouse. That covers most enterprise RevOps stacks.

  • CRM and MAP: Salesforce, HubSpot, Marketo.
  • Sales tools: Gong, Outreach, Microsoft Teams, Slack (for agents).
  • Data delivery: token-authenticated REST API, direct feed to Snowflake, S3, and other warehouses.
  • AI access: HG MCP Server for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and Windsurf.
  • Procurement: Fabric, HG Copilots, and the MCP Server are on AWS Marketplace, which helps if you burn down AWS commit.

The rough edge is product sprawl. HG's site still links to separate logins for Legacy Sales Copilot, AI Sales Copilot, Cloud Dynamics, and the TrustRadius vendor portal, a leftover of three acquisitions in four years.

Expect admins to manage more than one surface until the new platform fully absorbs the old ones.

What Users Say

HG Insights holds a 4.3/5 rating on G2 from roughly 430 reviews, and 4.5/5 on Gartner Peer Insights from a small sample of five. Sentiment is positive on data and mixed on price.

What users praise

  • Granular install data for ABM segmentation
  • Accuracy on enterprise accounts
  • Salesforce integration
  • Responsive customer success team

What users criticize

  • High cost, especially with add-ons
  • Outdated or missing records on smaller accounts
  • Learning curve for new users
  • Limited customization in some modules

One pattern stands out: praise comes from marketers and analysts building segments, while criticism clusters around reps who expected a contact database. Set expectations internally before rollout.

Who Should Use HG Insights (and Who Shouldn't)

HG Insights fits technology vendors whose deals depend on what a prospect already runs and spends. It is a strategy and targeting tool first and a prospecting tool second.

Use HG Insights if:

  • You sell infrastructure, security, data, cloud, or enterprise software and win by displacing a named competitor.
  • Strategy or RevOps needs TAM sizing, territory design, and account scoring built on install base and spend.
  • Channel and partner teams need to find accounts running a partner's product.
  • You want to feed account context into your own AI agents through an MCP server or warehouse feed.
  • Your data budget sits comfortably above $30,000 a year.

Skip HG Insights if:

  • You sell to small businesses or outside the tech buyer world. Coverage thins where IT budgets are small.
  • Your main need is emails and phone numbers at volume. A contact provider will cost less and go deeper.
  • You need month-to-month terms or a trial. Neither exists.
  • You only need to know which front-end tools a site uses. A crawler-based tool answers that for a fraction of the cost.

HG Insights Alternatives

The right HG Insights alternative depends on which part of HG you actually need: tech detection, intent, or contacts. No single tool matches HG on install-base depth plus spend.

BuiltWithCrawls public websites for front-end techWeb and marketing tech lookupsFrom $295/mo

For pure detection, our BuiltWith review and TheirStack review cover the two cheapest routes. Crawlers catch front-end tools; job postings catch back-end systems, with a lag of weeks to months.

For contacts plus tech data in one contract, see the ZoomInfo review. For intent-led ABM, compare the 6sense review, Demandbase review, and our roundup of buying intent data tools.

HG Insights Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Deepest install-base data in B2B: 640M+ verified installs with 15+ years of history (vendor claim)
  • IT, cloud, and AI spend estimates across 150+ categories
  • Corporate hierarchy mapping keeps subsidiaries attributed correctly
  • First-party, review-site intent through TrustRadius
  • Explainable Fit, Need, and Intent scoring
  • Native Salesforce and HubSpot sync, warehouse feeds, and an MCP server

Cons

  • No free trial or pilot plan
  • Two-year standard contract; one-year terms cost 10% more
  • Plans from $22,000 a year; Vendr median near $90,000 a year
  • Technographic depth on ~13.2M companies, thin for SMBs and non-tech verticals
  • Intent credits burn 30x faster than firmographic credits
  • Multiple legacy logins after three acquisitions

HG Insights Review: Final Verdict

HG Insights earns a 4.0/5. For a technology vendor selling into enterprise IT, no other dataset combines install base, spend, hierarchy, and review-site intent this deeply, and the October 2026 platform finally makes that data usable by AI agents.

The score loses points on access, not data. No trial, two-year terms, a $22,000 floor that real contracts quickly outgrow, and a credit model that punishes heavy intent use put it out of reach for most teams with a data budget under $30,000 a year.

Buy it if displacement, territory planning, and account scoring drive your pipeline. Skip it if you sell to SMBs, sell outside tech, or mostly need contact data.

If a two-year contract and five-figure entry price are dealbreakers, SyncGTM is one alternative worth a look: it detects a company's tech stack inside a waterfall enrichment pass that also adds verified emails, phone numbers, and firmographics from 50+ providers.
