Marketo Review 2026: Adobe Marketo Engage Pricing and Features

Kushal Magar

By Kushal Magar · November 3, 2026 · 16 min read

Key Takeaway

Adobe Marketo Engage is one of the deepest B2B marketing automation platforms: rules-based lead scoring, multi-stream engagement programs, ABM on upper tiers, and native bi-directional sync with Salesforce and Microsoft Dynamics. Adobe sells it in four packages (Growth, Select, Prime, Ultimate) priced by database size and publishes no prices; Vendr estimates roughly $1,500 to $2,500 a month for 10,000 contacts at entry level. It fits mid-market and enterprise teams with a dedicated admin. Our rating: 4.0/5.

This Marketo review answers the question B2B marketing leaders ask before a renewal or a migration: is Adobe Marketo Engage still worth its price and complexity in 2026? The short answer is yes for mid-market and enterprise teams that run Salesforce or Microsoft Dynamics and have a trained admin. For smaller teams, the add-ons and the learning curve usually tip the math the other way.

We read Adobe's Marketo pricing page and packaging guide, the Experience League documentation on scoring and engagement programs, and Adobe's 2026 pages for agentic AI, Marketo Optimizer, and Marketo Qualifier. We also checked third-party pricing data from Vendr and user ratings on G2, Capterra, Gartner Peer Insights, and TrustRadius in October 2026. We did not run a Marketo instance, so capability notes come from Adobe's documentation and user reviews.

Most pages that rank for "Marketo review" are review-site listings or pricing posts that quote numbers without a source. This review shows what each package includes according to Adobe's own table, what third parties say Marketo costs, how scoring and nurture actually work, and what changed in 2026.

TL;DR: Marketo Review 2026

  • What it is:Adobe's B2B marketing automation platform for email, lead scoring, nurture, ABM, and CRM sync.
  • Packages: Growth, Select, Prime, and Ultimate, all priced by database size. Adobe lists no prices.
  • Estimated cost: roughly $1,500 to $2,500 a month for 10,000 contacts at entry level, according to Vendr.
  • Best at: flexible scoring, multi-stream nurture, and native bi-directional sync with Salesforce and Dynamics.
  • New in 2026: agentic AI tools, an MCP server, and two companion apps, Marketo Optimizer and Marketo Qualifier.
  • Watch out for: paid add-ons on Growth and Select, a steep learning curve, and the need for a dedicated admin.
  • Our rating: 4.0/5.

What Is Adobe Marketo Engage?

Adobe Marketo Engage is a B2B marketing automation platform that captures leads, scores them, nurtures them with email and other channels, and syncs them to your CRM for sales. Adobe bought Marketo in 2018, and the product now sits in a family with Marketo Measure (attribution), Marketo Optimizer, and Marketo Qualifier.

Everything in Marketo runs through programs and smart campaigns. A smart campaign has a smart list (who qualifies and what triggers it) and a flow (what happens next, such as sending an email, changing a score, or syncing to Salesforce). That model is why Marketo is so flexible, and also why it takes time to learn.

Adobe's pricing page cites Marketo Engage as a Leader in Gartner's 2024 Magic Quadrant for B2B marketing automation platforms. In practice, Marketo shows up most at mid-market and enterprise B2B companies with large databases, long sales cycles, and a Salesforce or Dynamics CRM.

Lead Scoring in Marketo

Marketo lead scoring is rules-based: you build smart campaigns that listen for behavior or data changes and add or subtract points with the Change Score flow step. Adobe's packaging guide lists scoring, routing, and sales alerts as core capabilities, including lead and account engagement scoring, custom weighted scoring, and support for third-party scores.

According to Adobe's Change Score documentation, the step accepts +5 to add points, -5 to subtract, and =5 to set an exact value. You can keep several score fields, which is how most teams separate a behavior score (email clicks, page visits, form fills) from a fit score (title, company size, industry).

How a typical Marketo scoring model works

  • Behavior campaigns: a trigger such as a form fill or a pricing page visit adds points to the behavior score.
  • Fit campaigns: a data value change, such as job title or employee count, adds points to the fit score.
  • Decay campaigns: scheduled batch campaigns subtract points from leads that go quiet.
  • Threshold campaigns: when both scores pass your MQL line, Marketo updates the lead status, syncs to the CRM, and alerts the owner.

The strength is control: you can score almost any event or field. The weakness is upkeep. Every rule is a campaign someone has to build, test, and maintain. Predictive Audiences, Adobe's AI segment builder, is included only on Prime and Ultimate.

Fit scoring also breaks when the fields are empty. If half your leads arrive without a job title or company size, the model cannot score them. That is why many teams enrich records before they hit scoring rules. Our guide to CRM data enrichment tools covers the options.

Nurture and Engagement Programs

Marketo runs nurture through engagement programs: content streams that send on a set cadence, with rules that move people between streams as they qualify. Adobe's packaging guide calls this intelligent cross-channel nurturing.

Per Adobe's engagement program documentation, each stream has its own weekly or monthly cadence. Each send is called a cast. Marketo sends each person the next piece of content they have not seen, and you can pause or resume individual people without removing them.

Transition rules move people between streams, for example from an awareness stream to a product stream once they visit the pricing page. Adobe's stream transition docs include details that trip up new admins. Rules live on the destination stream, not the source. Multiple rules use AND logic. Paused people still transition. To send in each recipient's time zone, schedule the first cast at least 25 hours ahead.

Beyond email, Select and above include Dynamic Chat and interactive webinars. SMS (through a Vibes partnership), mobile push, website personalization, and website retargeting are paid add-ons on every package, according to Adobe's packaging guide. If you are weighing nurture-first tools, see our roundup of lead nurturing tools.

ABM Features: Target Account Management

Marketo's ABM features live in Target Account Management, which is included on Prime and Ultimate and sold as an add-on on Growth and Select. It lets you build named account lists, score engagement at the account level, and run campaigns against target accounts instead of individual leads.

Adobe's newer buying group features sit mostly outside Engage. Adobe Journey Optimizer B2B Edition, which Adobe launched in August 2024 as a complement to Marketo Engage, runs account journeys for buying groups on Adobe Experience Platform. The new Marketo Optimizer adds account and buying group intelligence, and Marketo Qualifier needs Optimizer to use buying groups.

Marketo's ABM works best on the engagement data it already collects: email activity, web visits, and form fills. For third-party intent, firmographics, and tech stack data, most teams add another source. See our guides to buying intent data tools and technographics.

CRM Sync: Salesforce, Dynamics, and the Rest

Marketo has native, bi-directional, real-time sync with Salesforce and Microsoft Dynamics, and Adobe's pricing page also lists Veeva as a native CRM integration. That sync is the main reason Salesforce-heavy companies choose Marketo: leads, contacts, accounts, opportunities, and campaign data move both ways without middleware.

  • Other CRMs:Adobe's packaging guide lists NetSuite and SugarCRM through a Vertify partner integration, sold as an add-on.
  • HubSpot CRM:not on Adobe's native list. Confirm the connector before you buy.
  • Sales Insight: an add-on that shows Marketo activity and scores to reps inside the CRM.
  • API limits: 20,000 daily API calls on Growth and 50,000 on the higher packages. Extra calls are sold in 10,000-call packs, which matters if you run enrichment or BI tools against Marketo.
  • Custom data objects: 10 objects and 2 million records on Select and above, and an add-on on Growth.

Remember that Marketo does not include a CRM. Vendr's comparison marks "CRM included" as no for Marketo. If you are still choosing one, our Salesforce review covers the most common pairing.

What Changed in 2026: Agentic AI, Optimizer, and Qualifier

The biggest Marketo change in 2026 is AI: agentic tools inside Marketo Engage, an MCP server, and two companion apps, Marketo Optimizer and Marketo Qualifier. Some features are live, and several are still marked coming soon.

Agentic AI inside Marketo Engage

Adobe's AI and agentic capabilities page lists these features for Marketo Engage:

  • Smart lead imports and automated program QA.
  • An MCP server, so AI assistants and agents can work with Marketo data.
  • Generative AI for email copy, subject lines, and images, plus an image-to-HTML converter and brand compliance checks.
  • An in-product AI assistant grounded in Adobe's documentation.
  • Data normalization, deduplication, and data insights.
  • Marked coming soon: program creation, journey creation, and callable agents.

Marketo Optimizer

Adobe announced Marketo Optimizer on September 28, 2026. It is an AI-native app built on Adobe Experience Platform that works on your existing Marketo Engage data. Adobe says it needs no migration and no CDP, and deploys in less than a day. It adds AI optimization, omnichannel orchestration, account and buying group intelligence, and agentic prospecting. It builds a running story for each buyer that drives next-best actions and applies AI personalization tokens at send time.

Marketo Qualifier

Marketo Qualifier is an AI app for BDRs. It combines lead, account, and buying group signals into a prioritized list of hot leads with AI summaries and a buying intent score. It also runs AI-led sequences across email and LinkedIn, with send-time optimization. Buying group features require Marketo Optimizer.

What this means for buyers: Optimizer and Qualifier have their own product pages and do not appear in the Engage package table. Ask Adobe whether they are in your quote, and how they overlap with Adobe Journey Optimizer B2B Edition, before you commit to a multi-year deal.

Marketo Pricing Tiers in 2026

Adobe sells Marketo Engage in four packages (Growth, Select, Prime, and Ultimate) and does not publish prices for any of them. Every package on the Marketo pricing page has a Get pricing button, and Adobe's packaging guide says each tier is priced by database size. Growth targets small business marketers with fewer than 50,000 contacts and includes onboarding.

Source: Adobe Marketo Engage pricing page and packaging guide, checked October 2026. Native CRM integration (Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics, Veeva), scoring, routing, and nurture sit in the core feature list that every package shares.

The jump from Select to Prime is where most of the value sits for B2B teams. ABM, Predictive Audiences, journey analytics, a sandbox, and workspaces all switch from add-on to included at Prime.

What Marketo Costs: Third-Party Estimates

Third-party data puts entry-level Marketo at roughly $1,500 to $2,500 a month for 10,000 contacts. That figure comes from Vendr's HubSpot vs Marketo comparison (last updated February 2026). Vendr estimates mid-tier plans at roughly $3,000 to $5,000 a month for 25,000 contacts. It puts the estimated total at $50,000 to $80,000.

These are estimates, not Adobe list prices. Vendr also notes that Marketo buyers often get discounts through multi-year commitments and competitive pressure. Get quotes for two packages, ask for every add-on as a separate line item, and confirm how Adobe counts your database (all known records or only marketable ones).

Add-Ons and Hidden Costs

The quote for the platform is only part of the cost of running Marketo. Adobe's packaging guide lists these paid add-ons:

  • Email infrastructure: dedicated IP (recommended above 50,000 to 100,000 emails a month, required above 1 million) and Email Deliverability Services.
  • Channels: SMS through Vibes, mobile push, website personalization, and website retargeting.
  • Sales tools: Sales Insight and Sales Connect.
  • Data and analytics: Advanced BI Analytics, database encryption, and extended data retention (37 months instead of the default 25).
  • Capacity: additional users, additional API calls in 10,000-call packs, and Performance or Performance Plus upgrades.
  • Attribution: Marketo Measure, discounted on Ultimate.

Outside Adobe's invoice, budget for implementation help and a trained admin. Neither is optional for most teams, as the next section explains.

Learning Curve and Admin Requirements

Marketo has one of the steepest learning curves in marketing automation, and most teams need at least one trained admin to run it well. The learning curve and a dated interface are recurring complaints in G2 reviews, and Capterra reviewers rate ease of use at about 3.8 out of 5.

The difficulty comes from the building blocks. You build programs, smart campaigns, smart lists, tokens, and folder structures yourself, then make them work together with the CRM sync. That flexibility is why experienced admins like Marketo. It is also why a messy instance becomes hard to untangle.

  • Onboarding:Growth includes onboarding, per Adobe's packaging guide.
  • Testing: a sandbox is included only on Prime and Ultimate. On Growth and Select, you either buy one or test in production.
  • AI help:the in-product AI assistant answers questions from Adobe's documentation, and automated program QA may catch setup mistakes.

What Users Say: G2, Capterra, and Gartner

Marketo Engage rates about 4.1 out of 5 on G2 and about 4.3 out of 5 on Capterra at the time of writing (October 2026).

  • G2: about 4.1/5 from about 3,300 reviews on G2.
  • Capterra: about 4.3/5 from more than 700 reviews on Capterra, with ease of use at about 3.8 and customer service at about 3.9.
  • Gartner Peer Insights: about 4.3/5 from roughly 1,100 ratings.
  • TrustRadius: about 8.1/10.

Across the reviews we read, the most common complaints were cost, the learning curve, and a dated interface. Mid-market and enterprise reviewers tend to rate Marketo higher than small business reviewers, which matches how Adobe packages it.

Who Should (and Shouldn't) Buy Marketo

Marketo fits B2B teams with a Salesforce or Dynamics CRM, a database in the tens of thousands, and someone who owns marketing ops.

Good fit

  • Salesforce or Microsoft Dynamics as the system of record
  • Complex, multi-stream nurture across products or regions
  • Account-based programs that justify Prime or Ultimate
  • A dedicated admin or an agency on retainer
  • Companies already using Adobe Experience Platform or AEM

Poor fit

  • Small teams without marketing ops support
  • Companies on HubSpot CRM that want a native sync
  • Buyers who need published, predictable pricing
  • Teams that need to launch campaigns this month

Marketo Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Deep, flexible automation with smart campaigns and tokens
  • Native bi-directional sync with Salesforce and Dynamics
  • Engagement programs built for long B2B nurture cycles
  • ABM, predictive audiences, and journey analytics on Prime
  • Active 2026 AI roadmap, including an MCP server
  • Scales to large databases, workspaces, and partitions

Cons

  • No published prices, and cost grows with your database
  • Many key features are add-ons on Growth and Select
  • Steep learning curve and a dated interface, per reviewers
  • Needs a dedicated admin to run well
  • No native HubSpot CRM sync
  • Several AI features are still marked coming soon

Marketo Alternatives

The closest Marketo alternatives are HubSpot Marketing Hub, Salesforce Account Engagement (Pardot), and Oracle Eloqua, with ActiveCampaign for smaller teams. ABM platforms like 6sense and Demandbase usually run alongside marketing automation rather than replacing it.

Marketo Review: Final Verdict

Our rating: 4.0/5. Adobe Marketo Engage is still one of the most capable B2B marketing automation platforms for Salesforce and Dynamics shops with a trained admin. It is hard to justify for small teams or anyone who needs predictable pricing.

It earns its score for scoring flexibility, engagement programs, native CRM sync, and a 2026 AI push that includes an MCP server and the new Optimizer app. It loses points for opaque pricing, add-ons that gate key B2B features below Prime, and a learning curve that reviewers keep flagging.

If you are evaluating Marketo, request quotes for Select and Prime, ask for every add-on as a line item, and confirm where Optimizer, Qualifier, and Journey Optimizer B2B Edition fit in your plan.

Marketo can only score and nurture the records it receives. SyncGTM enriches and scores leads before they get there: it finds work emails and phone numbers through waterfall enrichment across 50+ providers, then adds firmographic, tech stack, and buying signal data. Enriched records sync both ways with Salesforce and HubSpot, so a Salesforce-connected Marketo instance picks them up through its CRM sync. See pricing.
